Re-instating a "timeless" Wolverhampton landmark

Re-instating a "timeless" Wolverhampton landmark

As Big Ben is put to sleep for a while, St Mark’s Church in Chapel Ash is ready to pick up the mantel.

After 20 years without a sound, the Grade 2 listed clock in St Mark’s Church in Chapel Ash has been restored and will now chime again.

One of the most beautiful buildings in historic Chapel Ash, St Mark’s Church had stood for a long time – but until most recently had been a little unloved and rough around the edges.

New owners Technology Management, a local IT consultancy firm for SME’s, have been working hard since March 2016 to bring the church back in to full health as their main offices. The now fully working clock, chiming on the hour between 8am and 9pm, is the icing on the cake.

Managing Director, James Crowter said “We are thrilled to be able to reinstate such an important piece of the Wolverhampton skyline. And it comes at a great time – just as Big Ben is silenced for the next four years, St Mark’s will chime again for the first time in 20. We take our presence in Wolverhampton very seriously, and we want to continuously ensure that we are investing in making it a great place to be and work.”

The clock is now full restored and backlit, showing off the beautiful church building in all its glory – and offering a reliable time reference from as far away as the man on the horse!

The work on the clock was completed by local clock manufacturers and repairers, Smith of Derby www.smithofderby.com.
