Quoting 101 Dynamics 365 CRM vs Business Central
Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes
When it comes to quoting, both Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM offer great capabilities – but which one should you use? Should you use both? How should it all be integrated? And what are the pros, cons and best practices to be taken into consideration?
There’s a lot to consider if you want to get the most out of your solutions.
It can feel a little confusing, especially when there’s no “one-size-fits-all" quoting process that every business uses. The types of products, what customisations are on offer and/or what services you're quoting for can also add additional complexities to navigate.
Having quoting functionality in both systems has some great benefits, but it doesn’t make things particularly clear when ultimately choosing the “right” place to quote. After all, if the functionality is available in both surely you could use either? Well, there are pros and cons to both sides of the fence.
In this episode of Tecman Talks Dynamics Jason, Kelly and Ellie are exploring the quoting functionality and integration between Dynamics 365 CRM and Dynamics 365 Business Central, and where quoting comes into play between the two.
The quoting method in Dynamics 365 CRM has been improved, with smoother functionality and enhance sales functions, which I’m sure we can all say we’re a lot happier with! But this improvement, whilst the user experience has improved, it doesn’t make it the default option when it comes to quoting. However, if you’re providing a quote to a prospect, why clog up your Dynamics 365 Business Central system with items you may never sell when you can easily store and manage those prospects, plus the items you’re quoting for within Dynamics 365 CRM.
Alternatively, if you’re needing to calculate more complex pricing and varying pricing options, Dynamics 365 Business Central could be a better option for you. That being said, Dynamics 365 CRM does have some workarounds that might suit your needs and you can even synchronise these options with Dynamics 365 Business Central, making it even easier to proceed when ready.
Add in the option of using Power Platform’s Power Apps, or even third-party apps, and you open yourself up to even more flexibility, this isn’t standard Dynamics 365 functionality, but the option is there.
It’s not clear cut which quoting option is best for you, it all depends on how your business works and what you’re selling. However, this episode is sure to give you a head start in choosing the best tool for your business needs and processes. Listen today!
