2022 Wave 1 release: The Demise of the Advanced Find in Dataverse & Dynamics 365 Model Driven Apps, Part 2
Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes
Public Preview: Now Available (enabled by admins), General Availability: April 2022*
During the last release phase, we wrote about how you could now use modern inline search functionality directly from the views in a table, giving users the ability to “Slice and Dice” their data how they wanted to find the records they needed in an inline view.
The functionality was designed to remove the reliance on the old legacy advanced find and allow the removal of legacy features, but it was missing one component.
During this feature roll out, this gap has now been filled.
To look at tables that were not listed on the site map of the apps, you would still have to go into the advanced to have a look through these, but now you can do all of this inline.
At the bottom of the search screen now, there is an option to “Search for rows in a table using advanced filters”.
If you click on this, you will get a panel open out on the right hand side of the screen.
You no longer need to type the first letter and then scroll through every table that starts with that letter, or type really fast and hope you manage to get the word right or you have to start again!
You can type easily in the search bar, and using wildcard functionality, this will now search through the list of tables, keeping the scrolling to a minimum.
This will then take you to the default view for the table you have selected and automatically open up the filtering screen.
If you didn’t read the previous article about how the inline filtering works, click here to read part 1
Whilst this will no doubt eventually become the default, it currently needs to be enabled by an admin through the Power Platform admin portal (These settings are no longer available in the legacy administration panel).
To enable this (in sandbox until it is Generally Available, of course).
Navigate to the Power Platform admin centre:
https://admin.powerplatform.com
Select the environment you wish to enable it for and click on settings.
You will find these settings in the Features section
First you will have to make sure Dataverse search is enabled:
The scroll down a bit further and you will see some more search settings:
Once all of these are set to On, you will see the search bar in the centre of the banner and the option to select a table when you click into it.
This now means that all of the functionality we previously had in the legacy advanced find has now been moved over to the Model Driven App interfaces and will surely be the final nail in the coffin of the legacy advanced find.
*As with all Roadmap releases, the GA date is subject to change and updates to functionality could occur.
This feature is in preview and should not be enabled in a production environment, no matter how excited you are to have it!
