Will a fixed price implementation work for me?

Happy New Year!
We start 2023 with a brand-new series of our Tecman Talks Dynamics and a subject which is everywhere at the moment – fixed price, fixed outcome, fixed timeframe Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central implementations.
Now, let's be clear we aren’t bashing traditional implementation methods as they have their place but not all companies require a complex bespoke solution, same as a simplified solution doesn’t always work for everyone either.
An example that James uses in this podcast are his trousers. Anyone who knows James knows that he is VERY tall and as you can imagine the high street and off-the-rack solutions just don’t work for him – a bit like a fixed-templated solution. So, for his trousers, he needs to find someone who will make him a pair to his exact measurements and exclusively for him – such as a tailored, traditional method of implementation. In this instance, James could buy from the high street, but they wouldn’t fit him correctly so would have to compromise on the length of his trousers, much like an ERP implementation. In terms of ERP, if companies are willing to compromise on some of their requirements, they may be able to squeeze into a templated solution and kick off their Dynamics 365 Business Central journey faster. Plus, it is not forever, Dynamics 365 Business Central is always updating with new functionality which may plug the gap, or nothing is stopping you from refreshing your project in the future and adding some more complex functionality to suit your specific requirements at a later date.
To help you to understand which implementation option is for you, James Liam, Liz and Matt explore the differences between the tailored and fixed, such as ‘discovery workshops’ which are not included in templated solutions as they are often a large portion of a traditional project's budget (as much as a third!!). They also discuss why complex Dynamics 365 Business Central solutions with lots of customisations and add-ons may cause complications in the future, such as during upgrading etc. and aren’t always needed.
They also talk through how we, as a partner, work out what is the best implementation option for our clients and whether a fast method is suitable for Dynamics NAV users looking to update their system to the latest version. This could allow historical Dynamics NAV users to take advantage of new, useful functionality which could allow them to scrap old customisations and swap for alternatives which are now available as standard features.
