Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes

Quick heads up on an upcoming price increase for anyone using (or considering using) Power BI

Last week, on Tuesday 12th November, Microsoft announced upcoming changes to their pricing for Microsoft Power BI Pro and Premium Per User (PPU) licences. This is the first pricing update since Power BI was launched almost a decade ago.

From 1st April 2025, Power BI Pro licences will be $14 per user per month, and PPU licences will be $24 per user per month.

This represents a $4 increase in the per user per month pricing for both solutions – up from $10 per user per month for Power BI Pro and up from $20 per user per month for PPU. We're still waiting on the UK prices, which should be out about a month before the change kicks in.

Existing commercial customers will be impacted by the increase on the date of their renewal (on or after 1st April 2025) of their current Power BI subscription. There are no pricing changes for customers who purchase Power BI through Microsoft 365 E5 or Office 365 E5 annual term subscriptions with annual billing.

10 years of innovation

Since its launch in July 2015, Power BI has enabled our Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics 365 CRM (aka Dynamics 365 Sales, Dynamics 365 Customer insights and Dynamics 365 Customer Service) customers to analyse and visualise their data – both from Dynamics 365 and many other data sources

Today, Power BI is recognised as a leader in Business Intelligence (BI) platforms by the major analyst firms and is used by more than 350,000 organisations worldwide.

Power BI product overview

Power BI Pro: allows users to create, share, and collaborate on data visualisations and reports seamlessly – all with enterprise grade security, connectivity to more than 100 data sources and native integration with various productivity tools.

Power BI Premium Per User (PPU): includes all the capabilities of Power BI Pro as well as access to premium features such as access to large model sizes and more frequent refresh rates per semantic model

For larger or more complex BI projects, Power BI can be licenced via Power BI Embedded or via Microsoft Fabric the pricing for which needs to be discussed with the sales team.

So if you’re looking to implement Power BI in your organisation, now might be the time to buy those licences and get started i.e. before the increase takes effect and thereby effectively protecting you from the price increase until your subscription renewal date.
