Outdated technology having an impact on your Building Materials business?
Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes
As a Building Materials business, your main focus is selling your materials to give you more profit and inevitably grow your business.
However, have you ever stepped back and looked at the multiple business systems that you use. Yes, that’s right I said ‘multiple’ as with previous experience the majority of building materials businesses are often using more than one IT system for their business. This would have been the norm years ago but not so much now, with the ever-growing availability of everything tech!
Multiple systems are driving businesses up the wall
A recent poll asked wholesalers & distributors in the Building Materials industry ‘what were the main factors affecting profitability?’. The results were quite alarming!
100% of people said that inaccurate data was the main factor, 38% said that it was the impact of Brexit, 38% said manual processes, 25% said employee costs & 25% said outdated technology. The craziest percentage out of all was that nearly a third recognise that manual processes are ineffective in managing business operations. This just shouldn’t be the case in this day and age, especially with so much technology around us that can be easily accessed! Why would you let your business suffer due to poor processes that can be easily fixed?
Having a single integrated system isn’t just about holding all your data in one place (which I must say is a huge plus!) but it can have many more benefits such as: slicker sales order management, the ability to automate your processes so that you can get on with other tasks, more efficient warehouse management, plus gaining a better view and closer management of your stock. Another recent survey, this time from Indeed, confirms that 19% of building materials businesses are now recognising the increasing importance of being able to sell their products online - and this is only possible with accurate, up-to-the-second stock availability.
Business systems that are not talking to each other is a major disadvantage for any business. But it seems to be that the fear of change is the brick wall standing between Building Materials businesses and them deploying an integrated system. Also, with so many different integrated systems out there, how are you to know which one is best for you?
Only the best integrated business system will cut it
